On Tuesdays Afternoon session I was looking at different briefs to get an idea of how the are briefs are presented and different types of briefs there are. I learnt that there are 5 different types of brief;
- Contractual Brief
- Formal Brief
- Negotiated Brief
- Informal Brief
- Tender Brief
We also did a word document on how we would respond to one of the brief we looked at. In addition, to this work we had do an assignment on explaining the important aspects of a brief. I started to complete this assignment task which was due in on the following Friday.
On Wednesdays morning session with Andy, I continued with this word document and I managed to complete this assignment ready to hand in on Friday. In Harry's afternoon session, I started to write up my skills profile for this project and I also started to, create my production schedule so that I can follow my schedule and complete it.
On Friday's morning session I continued on my production schedule by doing the initial aims for my ASH brief. I print screened all my questionaires and explained each one and making final decisions for my idea. In Simon's afternoon session, We were looking at the different Image formats. This was really interesting as we were looking at the advantages and disadvantages of each format. For example, TIFF is used for storing images and has incredible quality. However, a disadvantage was that the file size is ridiculous huge. This was one of the few formats we looked at in class. At the end of the class we were asked to write a 750 asignment about raster and vector images.
Here is some of the assignment ;
JPEG Images
JPEG Image JPEG Image ( Compressed Too Many Times)
JPEG is form of compression used to reduce the file size, this is a good advantage of this file extension. However, continuing to repeat this process on the same file can be really bad for the quality, doing it too many times could make the photo out of focus and this is a bit disadvantage of JPEG. JPEG is the main form of compression for bitmap images, so when its come to Photoshop you’ll be using a lot of JPEG because it saved in the compression of a JPEG. It’s always better to save the file as a Psd and then save a copy as a JPEG to be used in other software. Another advantage of JPEG Images is that it doesn’t uses up a small amount of the computer memory, this means that you can open up multiple JPEG without slowing down the computer. One last disadvantage of JPEG Images is that you can’t zoom on a JPEG because it will be out of focus and it will be pixelated.
Here is a example below of zooming in on a JPEG Image:
Vector Images
Vector Images are made up of shapes and lines simulated by a computer. Vector Image would usually show an outline of an image. Some of the reasons why a vector Image is not that popular is because it’s limited to the amount of colours you can use and the lines which you can create the images with. The advantages of vector images are that it’s easy to represent a geometric Image with vector images. Another advantage is that if you zoom in on a section, none of the quality is lost which is really good. Also, any form of compression made to vector images again doesn’t affect the quality.
The disadvantages of vector images is that you can’t use vector images for photographic image because the quality isn’t good enough and it won’t capture the detail photographers will want. Unfortunely another disadvantage of vector images is that most vector images have to be drawn because vector graphics is quite expensive. Here is an example of some vector image software below;
